[ David pulled together a respectable baby sprinkle in Jocelyn Schitt's living room on zero budget and zero notice; even playing things by ear, Patrick's always more than impressed with him. His smile softens, and he turns to look at David, genuinely touched. ]
No staff.
[ David knows how much that means to him - and Patrick knows exactly how hard it is to dodge the all-too-eager waitstaff. He takes David's other hand in his, squeezing them both and gazing at him. ]
[ He loves that when he does something that works, that really reaches Patrick and really shows him at least a part of what David feels for him all the time and can't properly say, he can always tell. His husband's face hides nothing and David wouldn't have it any other way. ]
I know how much you love taking care of me, so... I banished your competition.
[ He's half-kidding, but the time alone with Patrick, here, where they've hardly had any yet, is the actual treat for David. ]
[ Patrick, too, looks up just in time to get sprinkled with rain, but his smile doesn't fade. Instead he tugs David by their still-joined hands, under the safety of the gazebo roof. ]
Come on, it's okay.
[ And it is, he thinks. The sound of rain on the roof is soothing, and the interior, protected by the roof and the silk curtains David had hung (in the process of being ruined, maybe, by the water, but Patrick honestly couldn't care less) is cozy and dry. He looks around, happy and satisfied. ]
[ David goes with him, holding a protective hand over his styled hair as they go - it's been hard enough to get his hair to do what he wants in space and on a planet with all the wrong styling tools - he doesn't need a thunderstorm's humidity to ruin his slapdash honeymoon on top of it all.
He's pouting when Patrick turns to him but the same soothing ambiance that's working on Patrick is already at working on David as well. He can't deny that the curtains were a good idea and at least congratulates himself on that. ]
Why can't we do anything marriage-related without rain, huh? What's that say about us?
[ But at least he's smiling as he reaches for Patrick to twine his arms around his neck and shoulders. Even if the happily resigned expression is coupled with a roll of his eyes. ]
[ He could offer something about new growth and...fertility? Maybe not. Instead, Patrick just slides his arms around David's waist, pulling him close. David's smiling now, doing his best to hide it, but Patrick isn't fooled, and he smiles back. ]
I like it, actually. You know? It's kind of peaceful.
And this way, we know no one will wander by and interrupt.
[ David's smile turns mischievous at that and he dips in for a kiss, drawing his thumbs back over his husband's jaw as he loses himself for a moment. It's been a while since they've been able to get away with this anywhere but their assigned living quarters.
Once the staff were gone. ]
At least we know it's definitely our honeymoon. You know, since it matches our ceremony. Sabotaged by damp.
[ He leans in, tilting his head up to meet David's and return the kiss. It's been way, way too long since they've been able to do this. Even when they do manage to scare the staff away for a while, there's always a nagging feeling in the back of Patrick's head that they're going to come back and interrupt them in the act.
But he draws back when David speaks, eyes wide with surprise. ]
Our...honeymoon?
[ He looks around, taking in the carefully decorated gazebo, the snacks and drinks and cushions with new eyes. It had been an amazing, romantic gesture, but he hadn't yet stopped to consider that it might be for an occasion. ]
[ It's been a kindness of David's not to mention to Patrick that the staff probably have ways of watching them inside their assigned quarters even when they think that they're completely alone. Why wouldn't they? They have the run of the place more than David and Patrick really do, thanks to their station.
But he doesn't want his modest husband thinking about that. At all. ]
Did I not make it obvious enough? [ He looks around with a bit of mock concern... but there's some real concern there, too. ] Not enough food? Flowers?
[ Even if the flowers here are... weird. ]
I just thought... It's not now or never, exactly, but. You know me. [ A grin as David settles back into his confidence. ] I'm impatient. And always in the mood for extravagance.
[ To be fair, it has been months since their wedding, and between paying for the wedding and the down payment on the house, they hadn't ever had much of a honeymoon planned. Certainly nothing as extravagant as David would have liked, Patrick knows.
This probably isn't like anything David might originally have had in mind, either, but to Patrick, it's perfect. His expression softens further, and he reaches a hand up to cradle the back of his husband's head. ]
Well, it was worth waiting for. But...I'm glad I don't have to wait any longer.

[ It never hurts to say it, he thinks, as often as possible. Especially now, with how...rocky things have been lately.
He leans up and in, pressing a soft, warm kiss to David's lips before pulling back again. ]
So. No staff, huh? Just the two of us.
no subject
[ A lot of organizational, dictating work, sure, but work nonetheless, David thinks. It's been a little while since he's had anything at all to do. ]
Yeah, just us for--
[ But that's when the thunder announces itself again and David feels the first raindrops pelt his face. ]
What!? Damn it!
